Indianapolis Wrongful Death Lawyers Are Here For You
There are endless stories regarding impaired individuals getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and taking the lives of innocent victims. Despite the many dangers, as well as the constant efforts of lawmakers and advocates battling to keep drunk drivers off the roads of the Indianapolis area, people still choose to drive under the influence. Drunk drivers are one of the leading causes of auto accidents, and more often than not innocent people are the ones who end up as the victims in these accidents.
A young mother from Indianapolis was recently killed when a man who was allegedly driving impaired slammed into her vehicle. The woman, who was 22-years-old, was also carrying her young son in the vehicle with her at the time of the accident. After the other vehicle struck her car, the woman’s car slammed into a tree. Authorities said that she died instantly. Her 15-month-old son survived but he was in critical condition at the time of this report. No other details were given about the crash or in regards to the man in question. Authorities do believe he was drunk when the accident happened.
Meantime, in a terribly ironic twist, the woman’s father is a long-time Indianapolis police officer, who has actually spent the last decade of his 25-year law enforcement career as a full-time member of the Indianapolis Police Department’s DUI unit. During is career he has made about 4,000 arrests of people driving under the influence. In fact, on the night of his daughter’s fatal accident, he was in another part of town working a DUI checkpoint. That is when he got the call about is daughter. Although he still wants to get back to working the checkpoints for the DUI unit, so far it has been too difficult for him to return because of the loss of his daughter.
This father, as well as his daughter’s husband and young child, has lost a loved one because another man allegedly chose to drive while under the influence.
